2006-07-20 | A Life of Beauty

What does a spiritual life do for you? Keith Ward, retired head of Theology at Oxford, outlines this quest as moving from exterior rituals to an interior understanding of expressing the universal love of God. In an interview, about his book, Keith stated:

You don't need God to explain anything! The book tries to make this case - that it (religion) has never explained anything. It was never meant to explain anything. Science is what explains things. Aristotle and Plato had science - but religion is something different. Religion is not about explaining things. Religion is about coming to terms with human existence - facing suffering and death, purpose and values. These are the things religions are concerned with and you don't get 'explanations'.

It's a bit like saying, if you fall in love with someone (and marry them) . . and you say, 'what does she explain?' The answer probably is - she doesn't explain anything! But she's transformed my life and the whole thing seems different because of this relationship.

Ah, a relationship with God can transform your life-completely. This truth can be found in the teachings of The Urantia Book and in many other religions. But in essence what would be the practical side of such a shift in humanity?

We would begin to respond from love instead of fear. This would be a natural consequence as we expanded our consciousness to understand that we are responsible for the quality of all our experiences, no matter how they unfold. The more conscious we become-the more we reflect the love of the universe-the less we reflect fear, anger, and grief.

Having this conscious if the greatest gift we can give ourselves. How can you evolve this way? Become liberated by a new reality:

  1. The Love Of God

"The pursuit of the ideal -- the striving to be Godlike -- is a continuous effort before death and after. The life after death is no different in the essentials than the mortal existence. Everything we do in this life which is good contributes directly to the enhancement of the future life." Read about it in The Urantia Book.
